probably the most annoying place I've seen BSD mentioned has to be in the adobe flash docs. specifically, they use freebsd md5 password code.
of course that's the only part I've seen mentioned, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't a fair old chunk of bsd code therein.
pity they're such parasites.
