    Besides ekiga there is a relatively good softphone for asterisk that runs on freebsd : kiax - http://kiax.org
    It speaks the native for asterisk protocol IAX2 and has a simple user interface.

    Unfortunately in the ports is the older version 0.8.4, however you can download and compile version 0.8.5 without much trouble.
